Barcelona – Sagrada Familia – Part 3

In my final post of photos from the basilica I have chosen some images from the facade which represents the betrayal and crucifixion of Christ.

The style of the architecture is very different to the Nativity Facade. On this side the supports are shaped to look like muscles or sinews. The sculptures are angular and more modern.

The grey structures above represent bones.

The basilica is, as can be seen in several of these photos, still under construction. The goal is to complete it by 2026, which will be the hundredth anniversary of Gaudi’s death.

This week I thought I’d share some photos from inside the basilica. Since the inside is all about light and colour I did not use my favourite monochrome…

The pillars are intended to look like trees, branching as they rise to support the ceiling and roof.

More soon.

The Sagrada Familia (Sacred Family) is the as yet unfinished Roman Catholic Basilica designed by Antoni Gaudi.

These photos are from the Nativity Facade of the basilica.

I took a lot of photos of the basilica, inside and out, so I will spread them out over a couple of posts.

Take care,

Barcelona

It’s been a long time since I had a holiday abroad so I was really looking forward to spending a few days in Barcelona. Whilst I have been to Spain before, I’ve not been for a very long time and never to Barcelona.

I’m not usually so fond of city life, but must admit Barcelona was quite stunning. The architecture in particular is worth visiting.

There are also quite a few museums to visit. With limited time I had to prioritise and the Picasso museum was not to be missed. I must admit I am not a great fan of his more modern, impressionist/abstract work, but the more traditional portraits and landscapes he did when young were excellent.

The photo above was taken within the Picasso museum. The building itself was a work of art!

These are just a small selection of the photos I took in Barcelona. I will post more in the days or weeks to come.

Take care!
